If you are interested in learning more about See Forever, please visit our website at MAA New Beginnings Youth Development Center (NB) is the District of Columbia’s long-term detention center for male and female youth located in Laurel, MD. It is responsible for the care and custody of youth placed in secure detention by court order. Position Overview The College and Career Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive college and career readiness program for students in grades 7–12 attending school within a juvenile detention facility. The Coordinator ensures that students have meaningful opportunities to explore postsecondary education, career pathways, workforce training, and credentialing opportunities regardless of the length of their detention. The College and Career Coordinator works collaboratively with students, families, school staff, facility personnel, colleges and universities, trade and technical programs, workforce development organizations, and community partners to expand students' access to postsecondary opportunities. College and Postsecondary Planning Help students explore a range of postsecondary pathways, including two- and four-year colleges and universities, community colleges, trade and technical schools, apprenticeships, workforce training programs, military pathways, and industry credential programs. Coordinate college representatives, career professionals, training providers, and other partners to provide presentations and information sessions for students. Maintain current knowledge of admissions requirements, postsecondary programs, career pathways, and workforce development opportunities. College and Career Planning & Curriculum Development Teach and facilitate college and career planning, postsecondary readiness, and diversified occupations for GED students and students in grades 11–12. Provide students with instruction, resources, and guidance to support college enrollment, career exploration, workforce readiness, career pathways, and postsecondary planning. Develop and maintain a comprehensive College and Career curriculum aligned with the academic, career, and postsecondary needs of the students served. Review, evaluate, update, and revise the College and Career curriculum annually to ensure content remains relevant, current, and responsive to students’ evolving needs, postsecondary opportunities, workforce trends, and program goals. Incorporate opportunities for students to develop essential career readiness skills, including goal setting, career research, resume development, interviewing, workplace communication, financial literacy, and postsecondary planning. Postsecondary Coursework During Detention Identify students who are academically and developmentally prepared to participate in college, dual-enrollment, trade, technical, certification, or other postsecondary coursework while detained. Establish and maintain partnerships with colleges, universities, community colleges, trade schools, workforce training organizations, and credentialing providers. Coordinate student enrollment in approved postsecondary courses and programs. Work with school and facility leadership to address logistical requirements associated with students participating in virtual, in-person, or hybrid postsecondary coursework within a secure setting. College Application and Enrollment Support Guide students through all stages of the college application and enrollment process. Support students with completing college applications, personal statements, essays, resumes, and other application materials. Support students and families with completing the FAFSA and understanding financial aid, scholarships, grants, and other funding opportunities. Campus-Wide College and Career Programming Develop an annual college and career readiness calendar for the campus. Plan and coordinate college fairs, career fairs, trade and apprenticeship fairs, career days, guest speaker events, college information sessions, and other campus-wide activities. Develop events and activities that expose students to professionals from a variety of industries and career pathways. Ensure college and career programming reflects a wide range of pathways and provides students with meaningful exposure to options they may not have previously considered. Data Management and Program Evaluation Maintain accurate records of student participation in college and career services. Provide regular reports to school leadership regarding college and career programming, student outcomes, partnerships, and areas for improvement. Other Duties as Assigned: Tasks that may not directly align with your job description but are vital and serve to maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment for scholars and staff. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, counseling, social work, higher education, workforce development, youth development, or a related field. (Required) Ability to manage multiple student cases, partnerships, events, and deadlines simultaneously. Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, community partners, government agencies, and postsecondary institutions. Ability to work successfully within the policies, procedures, and security requirements of a juvenile detention environment. Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and complying with applicable educational and facility requirements. Salary and Benefits Maya Angelou Schools and See Forever Foundation salaries are comparable to those of other public charter schools in the District of Columbia area.
