Target salary range: $75k . The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Provides SME support services to Army Wargaming Branch of the Future Warfare Division (FWD) throughout the design and execution of the Future Study Program (FSP). Model & Simulation Specialist will support all aspects of wargame/event execution. Support will vary based on event design and includes:

  • Future Warfare M&S Specialist ensures the correct configuration of wargame software, data, simulations, simulators, servers and tools used within a distributed simulation event.
  • Ensures scenario data and unit/entity composition, properties, system performance characteristics, and locations are accurate at exercise instantiation. Interfaces with all external participants and directs all aspects of distributed simulation events, including in-stride management of hardware, software, and data changes, and management of stop/start/restart and checkpoint reset operations.
  • Ensures simulation event data is captured and archived in order to support event After-Action Review (AAR) and report generation activities.

Specific knowledge, skills, and experience include:

  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Army, Joint, or hobby wargaming.
  • Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts and practices, preferably with experience in C#, Python, HTML, JSON, and SQL.
  • Basic understanding of computer networking, including network architecture, networking concepts, and common network equipment.
  • Understanding of software architecture principles, including application programming interfaces (APIs), scripting, and backend and frontend system concepts.
  • Working knowledge of relational database concepts, preferably PostgreSQL, with the ability to work with and adapt to other relational database management systems.
  • Basic understanding of game design principles, including game loops, object interaction, and related game mechanics.
  • Familiarity with software development and service technologies, including Docker, GitHub, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with software development environments and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), preferably Visual Studio Code or Eclipse.
  • Exposure to artificial intelligence (AI) models and AI-enabled software development, beyond basic end-user interaction with generative AI tools.
  • Preferred proficiency with SQL and/or Power BI.
  • Preferred experience in the planning, integrating, and executing the conduct of distributed/multi-site simulation (including all elements of event development testing & integration) conducted to examine and analyze Future Service Concepts, Capabilities, and Force Structures in the context of Military formations from Brigade to Division-level operating in a Joint, Interagency, and Multinational force environment.
  • Preferred experience working with senior General Officer (GO), Flag Officer (FO), or Senior Executive Service (SES) officials.
  • Preferred experience working in Joint and Army Command headquarters

Required:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Modeling and Simulation, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research/Systems Analysis, Information Systems Management, or a related field.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts and practices, preferably with experience in C#, Python, HTML, JSON, and SQL.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of computer networking, including network architecture, networking concepts, and common network equipment.
  • Must possess an understanding of software architecture principles, including APIs, scripting, and backend and frontend system concepts.
  • Must possess working knowledge of relational database concepts, preferably PostgreSQL, with the ability to work with other relational database management systems.
  • Clearance: Eligible for Secret.
  • Proficient with Microsoft software.

Travel:

  • As required estimated 10-15% a year
