Library Director | Hillsboro Area Public Library Posted on Jun 8, 2026 Overview The Library Director is responsible for day-to-day operations of the library and long-range planning. The Director creates administrative reports, reports related to library usage, and reports required by the Secretary of State. They are responsible for ordering new books and coordinating with the Illinois Heartland Library System. The Director supervises clerks including training, maintaining personnel files, and coordinating schedules. Responsibilities Financial duties including payroll, paying bills using Quicken, monthly financial statements for the Board of Trustees, filing W-2 and 1099 forms, and preparing the annual budget levy. Grant writing to obtain funds for programs. Outreach to community organizations and promotion of library activities via local newspaper and radio. Plan and oversee all library programs for all ages, including the summer reading program. Handle general maintenance and ensure a well-functioning environment. Commit to personal growth and development in the position. Qualifications Master's in Library Science preferred; Bachelor's or Master’s in English, Literature, Business, History, or Sciences acceptable. New graduates considered. Previous library experience helpful (e.g., library assistance in school or other organizations). Grant writing experience beneficial. Proficiency in payroll and budget development.
