CAP focuses on protecting clinicians while promoting high-quality, safe patient care, and more information is available at Role Description The Senior Risk Management & Patient Safety Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Los Angeles, CA. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating risk management and patient safety programs for member physicians, groups, and facilities, with the goal of reducing liability exposure and improving care outcomes. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting onsite assessments, reviewing clinical and operational processes, analyzing trends in claims and incidents, and recommending evidence-based risk mitigation strategies. The specialist will provide education and training on patient safety, regulatory requirements, and best practices, as well as prepare reports, tools, and resources for members and internal stakeholders. The role also collaborates closely with underwriting, claims, and legal teams, participates in committee and workgroup meetings, and supports the design of new services that enhance physician support and patient safety. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in clinical risk management, patient safety, and healthcare quality improvement, preferably within physician group, hospital, or medical malpractice environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience using data to identify risk trends, evaluate interventions, and measure outcomes. Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to clinicians, administrators, and leadership. Proven ability to lead educational sessions, develop training materials, and coach healthcare teams on patient safety and risk reduction practices. Solid knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and professional liability principles relevant to physicians and healthcare organizations. Ability to build collaborative relationships, influence change, and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments. Bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, risk management, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPHRM, CPPS) is highly desirable.
