The Heavy Equipment Operator with a Class A CDL (no restrictions) is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of heavy machinery in diverse environments, including land clearing and forestry projects. This role involves working with a small crew on mixed project types, often requiring travel between job sites multiple times per week. Maintaining clean company trucks.  The operator must adhere to strict safety standards and effectively communicate with supervisors and team members to ensure efficient and safe operations in challenging conditions such as Florida’s heat, humidity, and varied terrain.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain excavators, backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, graders, and trucks
• Perform excavation, trenching, grading, and utility installation/repair while following safety protocols
• Load, unload, and haul equipment and materials on-site and on public roadways
• Inspect machinery daily, report defects, and follow maintenance schedules
• Assist in grading, dirt work, land clearing, tree work, and forestry mulching
• Work in all weather conditions and varied terrain, including near active utilities
• Follow safety policies and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, trades, and coworkers
• Complete documentation for equipment use, maintenance, and job progress

Required Qualifications

• Minimum age: 21 years at hire
• Valid Class A CDL with no restrictions
• At least 3 years operating medium and heavy construction equipment
• At least 3 years experience driving Low-boy/detached trailer, roll-off trucks, and dump trucks
• Fluent knowledge of heavy hauling, land clearing, excavating, grading, tree work, and forestry mulching processes
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills for trucks and heavy equipment
• Manual labor capability, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a crew

Preferred Qualifications

• Over 3 years experience in heavy equipment operation
• Proven proficiency in operating excavators, loaders, and bulldozers
• Strong knowledge of safety standards and PPE use
• Experience with mechanical troubleshooting and basic equipment maintenance
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to adapt and perform well under varied weather conditions
