Custodian - 2nd Shift

New Albany‑Floyd County Consolidated School District, Scriber Middle School – New Albany, Indiana Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Title: Custodian – 2nd Shift Classification: Hourly (Non‑exempt) Pay Range: $18.24 to $19.34 (based on experience and education) Shift: 2nd Shift hours (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) Length: 8 hours daily / 260 days yearly Reports To: Custodial and Staffing Manager and Building Principal Fully benefitted to include medical, dental, vision, life insurances; sick, personal and vacation days as well as state retirement (PERF). Summary: Performs cleaning duties as needed based on needs and events in buildings. Operates and performs general maintenance on buildings and grounds. Qualifications Two years’ experience or equivalent skills from a similar position. Knowledge and experience in custodial services. Exceptional oral communication skills. Clear writing and reading of written information. Ability to work in a team environment and create cooperative, professional relationships. General knowledge of computers including email, word processing, and work order software. Responsibilities Serve as a custodian assigned a cleaning route. Maintain, clean, and ensure safety of buildings, premises, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and grassy areas; remove snow or salt or sand icy areas when needed. Perform minor and routine painting, plumbing, and other related maintenance activities such as light‑bulb changes. Maintain compliance with safety regulations regarding equipment. Comply with safety regulations concerning the mixing, storage, and handling of chemical supplies. Maintain in‑depth knowledge of fire and security alarm systems. Use proper procedures when cleaning body‑fluid spills. Empty trash containers; comply with local procedures and laws for disposal. Set up tables and chairs for events and move furniture and equipment as directed. Engage in general cleaning and upkeep of buildings, including buffing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and washing windows. Contact appropriate personnel if a building alarm is activated. Other duties as assigned by the Custodial & Staffing Manager or Building Principal. Supervisory Responsibilities Does not supervise or manage other employees. Physical Demand Regularly required to talk or hear. Frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance. Occasionally required to sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and/or smell. Must regularly lift or move up to 35 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to focus. Employee must remain free of alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment.
