Chief Risk Officer / Legal Affairs / Full-time / Days – Los Angeles, CA – Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Overview The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is a senior leadership role responsible for strategic and operational leadership in assessing and mitigating enterprise risks across CHLA. The CRO reports to the General Counsel, partners with the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors, and collaborates closely with the Chief Compliance Officer. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop a diverse risk management team, including recruitment, training, development and performance management. Establish and execute a strategic framework for evaluating and mitigating risk-related issues across CHLA. Educate and advise stakeholders—including the Board and executive leadership—on enterprise risks and mitigation strategies. Ensure independence and oversight of internal audit activities, high‑level investigations and other emerging risk issues. Drive analytic and data‑driven approaches to risk management, creating innovative strategies to address risk challenges. Collaborate with the Office of the General Counsel to calibrate legal engagement and privilege management. Oversee claims management: investigation, reserving, resolution, and coordination with finance and actuarial teams. Manage the current insurance portfolio, maintain relationships with brokers and vendors, and ensure value from contracts. Lead business continuity planning, threat mitigation, and internal investigations related to enterprise risks. Collaborate with compliance to maintain an ethical and compliant culture, integrating risk management with corporate policies. Qualifications Minimum: 10+ years’ risk management experience. Preferred: Pediatric nursing experience, prior management experience. Senior leadership experience in healthcare, risk management, claims management, insurance, and/or related areas. Strong analytical, data‑driven approach and financial acumen. Excellent negotiation, written, and oral communication skills. Collaborative spirit with ability to partner across senior leadership teams. Education & Certifications Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; JD and/or RN acceptable. Preferred: Advanced degree in healthcare or related field, CPHRM certification. Compensation USD $199,056.00 – USD $322,483.00 (salary range subject to qualification, experience, and education).
