Harmon High School The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings. Job Goal: Responsible for all levels and all phases of his or her sport. Particular duties may be assigned to assistants, but the head coach is responsible for ensuring that all tasks are completed correctly and on schedule. Essential Functions: Enforce all rules of the Kansas State High School Activities Association Supervise student athletes during all facets of participation (competition travel, meetings, practices, etc.) to ensure activities are conducted safely. Maintain records for district, athletic conference, state, and KSHSAA requirements (pre‑participation exam, concussion form, insurance waiver, medical release, etc.). Verify equipment and participation requirements for all athletes, including KSHSAA eligibility and activity ticket purchase. Implement practice schedules, secure facilities, and submit schedules to administration. Supervise practice sessions and maintain security of the locker room. Report all injuries as per injury‑reporting policy. Support athletic trainers and follow their safety recommendations. Conform to school policies and USD 500 board decisions. Organize uniform and equipment checkout, maintain inventory, enforce care rules. Inform administration of equipment needs. Maintain evaluation records for athlete assessment and team placement. Attend supporting events (league meetings, parent orientations, recognition events). Develop practice regimes for performance enhancement. Evaluate facilities for hazards and recommend modifications. Oversee coaching personnel and student managers. Guide coaching personnel in instruction, practice organization, and supervision. Assign duties to coaching personnel and evaluate each coach. Advise coaching personnel, parents, and athletes on sportsmanship and KSHSAA Rule 52. Monitor academic eligibility and provide intervention as needed. Report team scores to media outlets and prepare public releases (High School Only). Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Athletic Director. Qualifications: Certified teacher or qualified for Rule 10 certification through KSHSAA. Successful completion of a criminal background check. Current certification in CPR and AED. Communication / Organization: Maintains communication with school personnel, parents, and guardians to enhance cooperative action. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various formats. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret professional journals and regulations; write reports, curriculum, and correspondence; effectively present information. Physical Demands: Requires regular sitting, walking, standing, and hearing. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
