Assistant Controller

Location: Berlin, CT (On-Site)
Compensation: Up to $130k (DOE) 

We are partnering with a growing financial services organization to identify an Assistant Controller to join its accounting leadership team. This is a highly visible role offering the opportunity to work across multiple complex business lines while becoming a key resource for accounting, systems, data analysis, and operational decision-making.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, learning sophisticated ERP systems, partnering with operations, and making a meaningful impact beyond traditional accounting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to an accounting team of approximately eight professionals
* Support month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations
* Develop expertise in the company's ERP system and operational accounting processes
* Analyze large financial and operational data sets to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities
* Troubleshoot complex accounting and system-related issues
* Partner with leadership to improve reporting, data integrity, and operational processes
* Support inventory, operational, contract, lease, and franchise-related accounting activities
* Drive process improvements, workflow efficiencies, and stronger internal controls
* Participate in cross-functional projects and strategic business initiatives

Ideal Background

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* 5 years of progressive accounting experience
* Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading accounting staff
* Strong understanding of general ledger, AP, AR, reconciliations, and financial reporting
* Advanced Excel and data analysis skills
* Experience working with ERP systems and complex accounting environments
* CPA preferred but not required
* Backgrounds in financial services, distribution, inventory-intensive businesses, retail, wholesale, real estate, transportation, or operational accounting are highly valued
