Executive Director, Oncology Search & Evaluation

Position Summary Executive Director of Oncology Search and Evaluation is a senior role in the R&D organization at GSK. The role holder fosters late-stage global business development and licensing initiatives, supporting the success of the oncology strategy and portfolio. The Search and Evaluation group proactively scouts external innovation to strengthen GSK’s oncology portfolio. The executive will assemble internal subject‑matter experts, conduct technical evaluation and due diligence to enable enterprise decision‑making regarding business development opportunities. The role requires a strong scientific and clinical background, proven project and people leadership, business and strategic acumen, and excellent communication skills. Responsibilities Integrate clinical data, competitive landscape, market and investment trends to formulate business cases that deliver enterprise value to GSK. Leverage learning agility and interdisciplinary fluency to drive constructive challenge and debate among senior stakeholders for optimal outcomes. Act with urgency and entrepreneurial attitude to drive the deal process through go/no‑go decisions. Engage the life science investment and biotech community, and senior GSK executives, to represent GSK Oncology strategic initiatives and business priorities, building industry‑leading deal flow. Lead initial technical evaluation and formal diligence processes, providing rigorous scientific evaluation of potential assets and clear recommendations to governance bodies and senior leadership. Serve as the primary point of contact with external partners throughout the deal process, including submission and negotiation of non‑binding term sheets (NBTS) through to deal execution. Collaborate with the transactional lead in GSK Corporate Development during negotiation of any NBTS or definitive agreement. Lead preparation and presentation of business case and briefing materials for senior management, supported by cross‑functional functions. Ensure effective communication and efficient decision making to support timely completion of transactions. Maintain a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring GSK appears as the partner of choice for the biotech community. Stay expert in industry trends and competitor datasets relevant to GSK’s strategic focus. Basic Qualifications Advanced degree (MS, MBA, PhD, PharmD, JD, MD). 6+ years in oncology life sciences industry. 4+ years of experience in business development or search & evaluation; deal sheet submission is required. Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, including collaboration with senior R&D leaders to shape drug discovery and development strategy. Preferred Qualifications PhD / MD plus postdoctoral experience or MBA preferred. Critical, creative, and problem‑solving thinking. Success in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment. Innovation‑driven leadership with demonstrable knowledge of drug development. Effective communication with senior executive teams. Leadership experience influencing experienced professionals and executives. Track record of building successful internal and external partnership and collaboration relationships, demonstrating cultural sensitivity. Work Location This role is based in the United States or United Kingdom at posted locations and offers a hybrid working model combining on‑site and remote work flexibility.
