Counselor, National Young Men WGA Caddie Academy - Intern (Summer 2026) - On-site

Location: Northwestern Evans Scholarship House - Evanston, IL We provide summer caddie opportunities to at‑promise high school students who display outstanding academics, leadership, and character. Our mission is to use caddying, the game of golf, and the Evans Scholarship to create lifechanging opportunities for young men and women nationwide. Position Description The WGA Caddie Academy counselor helps to support the current participants who reside together and caddie over a seven‑week period every summer and plays an integral role in the day‑to‑day operations of the Caddie Academy program. This opportunity will require a high level of problem‑solving skills and collaboration with our WGA Caddie Academy team and our participants. The individual in this role would be assigned to a cohort of students in the program and work closely with other counselors to provide safety, security, and mentorship to the program as a whole. $5,000+ stipend, commensurate with previous WGA Caddie Academy counselor experience and performance. Possibility of earning college credit at the discretion of university policy Job Responsibilities Counselors are required to reside on‑site at the Northwestern University Evans Scholarship House for the full duration of training and the seven‑week program. Dates: Move‑in: Week of June 15, 2026 Move‑out: August 8, 2026 Mandatory virtual training sessions will be held via Zoom during May and June (exact dates TBD). Lodging, travel expenses, and meals will be covered. Complete approved safety training program as required by the ESF prior to move‑in. Coordinate transportation to and from the caddie programs from Tuesday to Sunday, with occasional Monday outings. Must be comfortable driving on the highway. Vehicles will be provided. Advise and mentor the Caddie Academy participants. Provide comprehensive support to participants, anticipating and responding to their needs throughout the program, including nights and weekends. Assist with practical errands such as driving participants to the store, bank, or other essential appointments. Communicate regularly and patiently with participants’ family members or guardians to support a positive and transparent experience. Facilitate peer mediation and help resolve interpersonal conflicts, promoting a respectful and inclusive group environment. Offer guidance regarding the Evans Scholarship, transition to college, and general college living. Work closely with other counselors to schedule, organize, and participate in special events (move‑in/move‑out, special events/outings, field trips, guest speakers, bank runs, golf lessons, etc.). Meet weekly with their designated supervisor —such as a lead intern or staff member— to review roles, responsibilities, and expectations, and to receive ongoing guidance and support. Maintain open communication with participants and families continuously throughout the program. Promote and encourage teamwork and cooperation among participants, junior counselors, counselors, and staff. In addition to the job responsibilities previously outlined, counselors may also be assigned to specific task‑based roles. Each of these roles is described briefly below. Caddie Liaison – Maintains and updates the master loop tracker, ensures the regular communication of counselors with caddie managers, summarizes weekly notes from the caddie managers, and organizes refresher training sessions. Life Skills 101 Facilitator – Attends weekly Life Skills training session with WGA Staff member, coordinates and facilitates weekly Life Skills session with participants, and modifies Life Skills session as needed to fit the needs of the community. Test Prep Coordinator - Collaborate closely with test prep program coordinators and the WGA Caddie Academy team to provide optimal support for participants in their learning. This role occurs weekly and involves active participation in each test prep session. Host Site & Logistics Liaison – Assist Lead Intern for Host Site & Logistics in the operations, facilities, and site coordination at the host site. Event Management Facilitator – Support the Lead Intern of Event Management in planning, coordinating, and executing all program events. Social Media Coordinator - captures and creates engaging digital content that highlights Caddie Academy’s activities, participants, and events while collaborating with staff to share stories across platforms and onsite displays. Attending or has graduated from a 4‑year university. 18‑year‑old male or older. Must pass a background check. Valid driver’s license. Must live on‑site for the duration of the 7‑week program, including overnights and weekends. Key Skills & Attributes: Self‑motivated, positive personality with strong work ethic; able to manage time well, take initiative, and complete tasks independently. Demonstrated passion for working with high school students, including supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth. Ability to foster an open, inclusive, and respectful environment that values the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of all participants. Team‑oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills; able to build trust and work effectively with peers and supervisors. Clam, clear‑headed, and effective in emergency or high‑pressure situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and one‑on‑one communication. Ideal for someone who has genuine interest in or personal connection to the Evans Scholars Foundation and its mission. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in youth development, mentoring, tutoring, or similar roles (e.g. peer leader, RA, camp counselor, etc.).
