FOOD SERVICE WORKER, DETENTION FACILITY POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision is responsible for performing various activities pertaining to the food service of the Spartanburg County Detention Facility. Is responsible for the supervision and training of trustees assigned to food preparation and services and performs tasks as preparing food, receiving food and supplies, checking equipment, inspecting facilities, etc. Reports directly to the Food Service Supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Supervises trustees and implements the preparation and service of food for the Spartanburg County Detention Facility; - Responsible for training, instructing and scheduling trustees/subordinate staff, assigning and reviewing work, and performing other supervisory tasks as necessary to maintain standards; - Performs inspections to ensure execution of proper methods and procedures and compliance with regulations; - Receives food and supplies when delivered, checks items against the invoice ensuring that they are acceptable to the requirements of the Facility; stores items in the proper locations; - Ensures that food preparation and service areas are sanitary and clean as required, implementing corrective action if necessary; - Notifies the Supervisor of supplies to order as needed to complete daily tasks; - Performs related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment; physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. Work requires climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, and noise. Possesses extensive knowledge of the Federal, State, and Local laws governing the activities of the Detention Facility. Knowledgeable of the policies, practices, regulations, and requirements of the County Detention Facility. Ability to oversee the work of subordinates and to promote their safety. Is able to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner. Ability to take responsibility for the completion of duties and responsibilities of subordinates and to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner. Ability to give oral and written instructions and to ensure timely completion of such assignments. Knowledgeable of how to provide guidance and assistance to subordinates as needed. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion as necessary in the performance of daily routines and non-routine situations. Ability to interact with a variety of persons and agencies in an effective and positive manner. Skilled in applying a responsible attention to detail as necessary in reviewing and preparing required reports. Ability to utilize necessary tools and equipment as necessary in the performance of the job. LICENSE, CERTIFICAT ONS and OTHER REQUIREMENTS - All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System. - Possession of valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina. - Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. - Must possess valid certifications as required by the Detention Facility.
