About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night and Day 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: RN license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Experience starting IVs - Epic experience required - Must pass Telemetry test prior to starting Description: D/N rotators will not be scheduled to flip between days/nights more than 2 times in a 6-week scheduling period, unless an exception is made at the employee's request. Employees will be scheduled for 36 hours off between the end of a scheduled night shift and the beginning of a scheduled day shift for patient care. Exceptions to the 2 flips in a 6-week scheduling period and/or the hours off between schedule flips may be made at the employee's request. Shifts are 12 hours long, from 07:00 to 19:30 and from 19:00 to 07:30, with every other weekend rotation and holidays as needed. Experience with adult med/surg patients with a variety of conditions and diagnoses is required. Experience with the geriatric population is preferred. Travelers will be required to take care of patients from the corrections department. There may be 0-10 patients from this population at any given time. The unit includes a locked wing with double doors for these patients. Staff will always be accompanied by a security officer while assisting these patients. Temporary staff will be required to float as needed. Local candidates within 50 miles will not be accepted. Two years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty is required. A telemetry exam will be required prior to starting. The following criteria must be met in two attempts: - 100% identification of lethal rhythms: Ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole - No incorrect answers on questions regarding 3rd degree heart blocks - Passing score of 80% or higher on both adult and pediatric exams Travelers will have two attempts to pass the exam. If a traveler fails the second attempt, they will submit a certificate of completion of a cardiac interpretation review course before a third attempt will be assigned. If the traveler does not pass after three attempts, the assignment will be canceled. Daily census is approximately 20 patients. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Previous law enforcement patient care experience is preferred. Travelers are required to manage various patient care tasks including monitoring telemetry, wound care, administering medications, and handling IV management.
