Logistics Specialist

SUMMARY:

Responsible for ensuring inbound and outbound freight are transported in the most economical manner for the division, while meeting the customer's expectations of quality and service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coordinate and schedule freight shipments for both inbound and outbound shipments.
• Obtain, assess, and negotiate transportation types, rates, and services.
• Continuously evaluate freight carrier performance and reliability.
• Assist with freight vendor evaluation, recommendation, and selection, as needed.
• Maximize freight cost savings by actively seeking opportunities, such as combining outgoing shipments.
• Complete proper documents for customs requirements.
• May assist other teams in expediting raw materials when needed.
• Assist other teams in routing, tracking, and quoting complex or international shipments.
• Assist other team members in the damage claims process.
• Back-up Shipping and Receiving Coordinators as needed.
• Depending on division, may operate forklift or pallet jack.
• Provide leadership and/or participate in department improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrates the Viaflex Team Member Values in their daily actions.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area. Follow established safety and ergonomic standards.
• May be called upon to perform comparable duties of a similar or related nature and/or assist in other areas as needed.
• Learning, understanding, continuously improving, and promoting the division's quality management system in accordance with ISO standards.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:


Associate degree in business or related field. Minimum 5 years' experience of traffic experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of ground and air carriers, LTL, and international shipment procedures. Demonstrated leadership skills. High level of service. Problem-solving abilities. Ability to identify waste and creatively look for solutions. Ability to be flexible, prioritize and multitask. Proficient with computers. Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff. Forklift Certification may be required.

Working Conditions: Exposure to a normal office environment. Position may occasionally require entering a production environment, including exposure to noise, fumes, moving machinery, and varied temperatures.
