About Mel Carr Electric

Good electricians deserve a good place to work.

You've spent years learning your trade. You know how to troubleshoot a problem, work safely, communicate with homeowners, and leave behind electrical work you're proud to put your name on. At Mel Carr Electric, that matters.

Mel Carr Electric has been serving homeowners throughout the Capital Region for 50 years. We've earned more than 1,800 five-star Google reviews and have been recognized as the Times Union Best Electrician.

We're not trying to hire a whole crew. We're looking for great Residential Service Electricians who want to become part of ours.

Compensation & Benefits

$35+/hour plus commission , with the opportunity for experienced service electricians to earn $80,000–$120,000+ per year . Our base pay increases over time with cost-of-living raises and rewards long-term employees.

100% company-paid benefits:

• Medical, dental, and vision insurance

• Life insurance

• Long-term disability insurance

Plus:

• 401(k) with a 4% company match

• 2 weeks paid vacation your first year

• Paid holidays

• Parental leave

• Fully stocked, take-home service truck after a short onboarding period (for techs living within 40 minutes of our shop)

• Company-provided iPhone and iPad

• Ongoing professional training and development

• A customer service and dispatch team supporting you throughout the day

• Referral program

• Steady, year-round work

What You'll Do

This is a residential electrical service position, not new construction. You won't spend every day on the same jobsite pulling wire.

• Run residential service calls throughout the Capital Region

• Diagnose electrical problems and troubleshoot a wide variety of residential systems

• Explain your findings clearly to homeowners and present appropriate solutions

• Complete high-quality repairs, upgrades, replacements, and installations

• Work safely, follow code, and treat every customer's home with respect

Our professional customer service and dispatch team handles scheduling and keeps your day organized, so you can focus on taking care of the customer and doing excellent electrical work.

We Take Quality Seriously

We want electricians who take pride in their work: working safely, following code, paying attention to the details, and keeping a clean jobsite. At Mel Carr Electric, quality isn't just whether something works when you leave. It's how the entire job was done.

Flat wires. Straight runs. Vertical screws.

What We're Looking For

• Journeyman-level electrician or higher. New York has no statewide electrical license, so we're looking for that level of skill and experience. Union journeyman card holders are welcome.

• 3+ years of residential electrical experience

• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

• Able to independently run residential service calls

• Solid understanding of residential electrical systems and code requirements

• Pride in clean, professional workmanship

• Strong communication skills with homeowners and the right personality for residential work

• Willing to learn and be part of a team with a great culture

• Valid driver's license

• Live within about an hour of our Albany shop

You don't need to know everything. But you should be a good electrician, care about the work you produce, and want to be part of a company that expects high standards from itself and its team.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday. No weekends.

Why Mel Carr Electric?

We believe in supporting one another, treating people with respect, doing the right thing, and giving good employees the tools and opportunity to build a long-term career. It's important to us that the job is the right fit for both you and us.

If that sounds like the kind of company you've been looking for, we'd like to hear from you.
