GENERAL SUMMARY

The Cook plans and prepares meal and follow established recipes to ensure highest quality service and experience for our residents with the assistance of Dietary Aids.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Acts as the lead position in the absence of the Director of Dining Services and/or Dining Services Supervisor.

· Assists in the training of new employees.

· Assures that food is served at the proper time and correct temperature by following the safety measures in place.

· Cleans work area and performs other cleaning duties as scheduled.

· Confers with Director of Dining Services and/or Dining Services Supervisors about the preparation of food for meals and assists in estimating quantities needed.

· Keeps records of daily food usage and notifies the Director of Dining Services and/or Dining Services Supervisor of supply needs when appropriate.

· Makes advance preparation for the next day as directed by the Director of Dining Services and/or Dining Services Supervisor/Chef. 

· Prepares foods listed on menus using safe food handling methods. 

· Responsible for taste and quality of finished product.

· Responsible for the general operation of the kitchen and work of Dining Aides. 

· Serves meals in dining room and kitchen as assigned. 

· Takes corrective action for temperatures in the “Danger Zone” and the Director of Dining Services and/or Dining Services Supervisor.

· Washes dishes by hand and machine. Checks and records pot and pan sanitizer sink for correct solution and dish machine temperatures/sanitizer levels as needed.

· All other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS):

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Previous experience as a cook or relevant work experience. Batch cooking preferred. 

· Ability to communicate through the oral and/or written process and ability to follow directions.

· Experience in quantity cooking in a health care facility.

· Adhere to the Facility/Department Dress code Policy.

· Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
