Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and assisting with patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. This role entails evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, as well as educating patients about treatments, procedures, and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, oxygen devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Administer suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography.
• Review patients' chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
• Assist in procedures relating to respiratory care, including Bronchoscopy and Chest Tube placement.
• Maintain accurate patient records and communicate effectively with physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Utilize effective maintenance and monitoring of mechanical ventilation equipment.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Current Virginia Respiratory Therapist license is required.
