Assistant Basketball Coach

Assistant Girls Basketball Coach @ West Valley High School Starting Date: Immediately Job Description *This position will start 2026-2027 school year* Reporting To: West Valley High School Athletic Director and Principal. Time: Winter Season Nov-March, 17 weeks per season/year, 71-85 days required with students, 15-30 hours per week with students. Number of students under your direct supervision: 12 Equipment Procurement: Yes Equipment Care, Maintenance and Inventory: Yes RESPONSIBILITIES: Attend coaches meetings, practice sessions, games/meets/matches as scheduled. Organize and conduct practices and games, providing Athletic Director with copies of practice schedules and plans. Enforce WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Keep accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources. Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests. Assist in developing a budget for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget). Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program. Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well. Maintain WIAA coaching standards and work toward becoming a master coach. Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures. Attend meetings as called by the athletic/activities director. The pre- and post-season (evaluation) meetings are required as part of the coaching contract. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal. Maintain contact with the 7-12 grade coaches regarding program philosophies, goals, etc. Minimum Qualifications Current First Aid/CPR card required. 4-year degree preferred. Previous coaching experience with girls at high school level required. Previous playing experience at the high school varsity level/comparable community program required; college and/or professional level preferred. Bilingual preferred. Personal Qualities Personal Qualities: Ability to work with student/athletes and their parents professionally, instill highest ideals of character and student welfare, independent critical thinker and team player, ability to plan practices and events, consistent attendance of practices and coaching preparation.
