Estate Planning Attorney

Financial & Tax Architects (FTA) is seeking an Estate Planning Attorney to help our financial advisors’ clients protect their families, document their wishes, and plan for the future. You will work directly with clients and their financial advisors to assemble personalized estate plans using estate planning software. Your work will primarily focus on wills, revocable living trusts, and related documents. You will also help develop estate planning content and present educational seminars to clients and prospects. As FTA’s sole estate planning attorney, you will independently manage standard estate planning matters, apply legal judgment to software-generated documents, and identify situations requiring specialized outside counsel. This position has no required billable-hour minimum. Responsibilities: Estate Planning and Client Service Meet with financial advisors’ clients to understand their family circumstances, assets, existing documents, and estate planning goals. Assemble, draft, customize, and review estate plans using estate planning software. Ensure documents accurately reflect each client’s wishes and comply with applicable law. Explain estate planning recommendations and documents in clear, practical terms. Guide clients through document execution and provide instructions regarding trust funding, asset titling, and beneficiary coordination, as applicable. Review existing plans and recommend updates as client circumstances or applicable laws change. Manage matters from initial consultation through plan completion, providing timely communication and follow-up. Recognize complex tax, business succession, special needs, or other specialized matters and coordinate referrals when appropriate. Collaboration and Practice Operations Collaborate with financial advisors to coordinate estate planning with clients’ broader financial plans while maintaining independent legal judgment. Serve as FTA’s internal resource for standard estate planning questions and education. Establish and maintain organized workflows for client intake, drafting, review, execution, and follow-up. Maintain client files, engagement documentation, conflict checks, confidentiality, and other professional requirements. Stay current on relevant estate planning laws and maintain all required professional licenses. Provide legal services only in jurisdictions where licensed or otherwise authorized to practice. Education and Content Development Partner with the marketing and advisory teams to create and review estate planning articles, FAQs, presentations, videos, and other educational materials. Occasionally present educational seminars, workshops, or webinars to clients and prospects. Help clients and prospects understand common estate planning needs and available planning options. Support financial advisors’ understanding of estate planning concepts and when legal guidance is appropriate. Required Qualifications Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Active Missouri law license in good standing at the start of employment. At least two years of estate planning experience. Demonstrated experience preparing wills, revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and related documents. Ability to independently handle standard estate planning matters and identify when additional legal expertise is needed. Strong legal writing, document review, and analytical skills. Ability to explain legal concepts clearly and build trusting client relationships. Comfort presenting educational information to groups. Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple client matters. Proficiency with estate planning software or the ability to learn new systems quickly. Preferred Qualifications Active Illinois law license in good standing. Experience working with financial advisors, financial planners, or accountants. Experience using document automation software to prepare estate plans. Experience presenting educational seminars or developing client-facing content. Experience establishing or improving estate planning workflows. Compensation and Work Arrangement $100,000 annual base salary. $20,000 bonus opportunity.
