About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych Specialty: Psychiatric Unit - Pediatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required; Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred License: State License required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: De-escalation experience, experience with physical restraints, comfortability to run groups, documentation skills Description: Immediate start needed. Simplified interview process followed by manager approval. The facility has 94 beds, including 50 pediatric beds. All patients are medically cleared before admission. Patients can be involuntary or voluntary admissions ages 5-18 years. Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Adult patients are generally 18 years and older with diagnoses including schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, along with eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. No forensic patients or inmates are present. Seclusion rooms are available for necessary use. Occasional substance use disorder patients may be admitted but must be medically cleared. Traditional medical and psychiatric care will be provided along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:5-6 during the day and 1:13 at night with resource support. Psych tech support is available for both pediatric and adult units. Support from a nurse supervisor is present during evenings and weekends, along with a nurse manager available during the day. Charge nurse may have patient assignments but is present for support. A nurse practitioner is available during the day and on-call overnight. Daily psychiatrist rounds occur with on-call hours during the night. Contracted phlebotomists are available for lab draws. Security staff is present on site but does not handle patient escalations, which are addressed by unit nursing staff. Charting is done using a specific system. Travelers may float between pediatric and adult units. First week involves day shifts for orientation, with the second week on a contracted schedule. Weekend rotations are expected every other week with holiday duty included. Time-off requests can be approved for up to 7 days. A modified self-scheduling system will be in place, allowing travelers to sign up for preferred shifts. Travelers will automatically be assigned vacant shifts if they do not sign up. Scrub color is flexible, but must remain professional. Winter weather conditions can be severe, impacting travel. During escalations, code leaders will assign roles while verbally de-escalating patients, and travelers could function in this role. Debriefing forms must be completed post-situation, with management available to assist during code events. Scenario-based training is conducted biweekly for practice. A MOAB educator and trainer will be present on site.
