Transportation Safety Planner (Full-Time)

Scope of Work This position is responsible for assisting member municipalities in planning, research, policy analysis, land use, housing, community development and environmental planning/sustainability. Work is distinguished by the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet established deadlines. Organizing CRCOG Vision Zero Task Force Committee meetings and CRCOG Traffic Incident Management outreach Coordinating with Watch for Me CT and UConn's T2 Center on pedestrian/road safety campaigns Developing and implementing strategies to identify, recruit, and engage CRCOG municipalities and community members in roadway safety campaigns and Vision Zero initiatives Developing, coordinating, and fostering community partners, including town governments, schools, state agencies, local police, and advocacy organizations Developing safety education and marketing materials as needed Presenting safety education items to CRCOG Committees or Boards Provide specialized knowledge and expertise on planning issues. Assist with managing large scope projects by reviewing zoning and subdivision proposals occurring along Town boundaries. Assist in preparing and reviewing grant proposals, applications, and budgets for various funding sources. Provide support for numerous CRCOG planning studies; including assistance with the RFP process, consultant selection, contracting, and invoicing. Support effects to conduct traffic analyses. Work with other staff members to conduct regional and local scenario planning analyses and to help the Agency and municipalities address transportation and land use planning projects and initiatives. Work collaboratively with other CRGOG employees to address and resolve concerns, provide assistance and support the overall functions of the department. Assist with public outreach activities. Demonstrate some level of independent judgement and discretion in carrying out job responsibilities and making position related decisions. Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding and respect of all Agency employees, member communities, and the public. Keep up to date on industry trends and maintain required training, licensure and/or certification. Follow safe work practices and adhere to policies, procedures, ordinances that have been adopted by the Agency. Requirements Principles and practices of urban planning; including transportation, land use and environmental planning/sustainability. Research methods and analysis. Public policy process and advocacy. Computer equipment and advanced uses of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database and other software. Geographic Information Systems. Ability To Research and analyze various factors involved in regional planning. Operate computers and word processing software and other standard office equipment. Speak in a public forum providing information and answering questions. Prepare clear, accurate records and reports. Coordinate and facilitate meetings. Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with managers, elected and appointed officials, staff, community and business leaders, the media, and others encountered during work. Organize, coordinate, and prioritize multiple project assignments. Handle multiple projects simultaneously and use good judgment in prioritizing work assignments.
