Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Duration: 26 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty License: Valid RN license Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - Charge experience: Minimum of 2 years - Experience in Trauma Level I - Charting system experience with Epic - Travel experience required Description: This position involves day shifts, 12 hours, from 0700 to 1930 with every other weekend and some holidays required. The role includes providing care in a specialized unit for cardiothoracic surgery, heart and lung transplant, and cardiac medical patients. The unit is equipped with 27 private rooms capable of ICU-level care. Nurses will typically care for 1 to 2 patients but may care for 3 if acuity is low. Staffing includes Care Team Leaders (charge RNs) and a Rapid Response Nurse. Planned and emergent procedures are common, and staff will be needed to navigate the complexities of shifting patient assignments. The nursing team is supported by nursing assistants and unit clerks during the day and evening. A blend of technological skills and strong commitment to patient care is essential. Nurses are expected to ensure the delivery of specialized care for patients requiring cardiac and thoracic surgeries. The patient population includes those undergoing procedures such as CABG, valve repair and replacement, and heart and lung transplants. Special equipment includes CRRT, IABP, Impella, HM3 LVAD, and ECMO. Telemetry testing is required before starting, with strict passing criteria. Floating to other units may be necessary as needed.
