Certifications: BLS certification required or to be obtained within 1 month of hire. ACLS certification required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire. PALS encouraged.

Description: The Registered Nurse position provides quality, professional, general nursing care to patients. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care for a group of patients. Must adapt appropriately to changes in daily assignments, patient status changes, and unit needs. This position requires providing care to Med/Surg and eICU patients. Use and perpetuate the nursing process throughout the patient's hospitalization. Ensure that patient care is individualized to meet the patient's unique needs and situation. Possess general knowledge of disease processes and anticipated treatments, labs, vital signs, and potential complications in relation to diagnosis. Initiate, develop, and document patient plan of care based on patient assessment and medical diagnosis. Set priorities for nursing action in accordance with departmental expectations. Within the framework of unit requirements, physician orders, and policies and procedures, provide care independently with minimal supervision. Respond to life-threatening situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of procedures and treatments and have the ability to explain them to patients at their level of understanding. Perform or assist with procedures per approved departmental policy and procedure. Observe and record significant condition changes or reactions for patients. In a timely manner, notify Provider of changes in the patient's condition, reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Acknowledge physician orders via the electronic medical record (EMR) by reviewing and verifying. Follow through on orders or delegate in a timely fashion once the order is acknowledged. Be proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, as evidenced by a lack of medication errors. Initiate patient/family education plans and discharge needs according to the individualized needs of the patient/family. Delegate to and collaborate with other health team members in planning and providing care based on patient needs. Safely care for multiple patients while maintaining a safe environment and using safety precautions appropriately. Demonstrate understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis, and infection control procedures. Ensure proper handling of specimens. All other duties as requested.
