Diesel Mechanic

Join to apply for the Diesel Mechanic role at WHARTON ISD . Purpose of Position Performs quality inspections and repairs to Wharton ISD operated vehicles. Communicates clearly, professionally, and in a timely manner with employees. Represents WISD to its customers and the public in a professional, courteous, and serving manner. Works within the WISD Mission, Vision, and policies, inspecting, diagnosing problems, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and other systems. Primary Job Functions Perform thorough and accurate Preventative Maintenance Inspections. Follow required schedules and complete all Preventative Maintenance tasks. Perform unscheduled maintenance as needed and directed by the supervisor. Perform complex operations including engine, electrical, fuel systems, brakes, exhaust repairs, and field tests. Provide emergency roadside services as needed. Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately. Maintain tools and workspace in a neat and orderly manner. Work may require on-call duty, extended hours, or weekend work. Maintain a helpful, positive, and courteous attitude towards coworkers and customers. Secondary Job Functions Perform driving duties when necessary. Perform other related duties as directed. Essential Education, Knowledge, and Skills Comprehensive knowledge of diesel and internal combustion engines, transmissions, air brakes, steering, and drivelines used by GoldStar Transit. Knowledge of hand tools, mechanic tools, and test equipment used in engine repair. Basic understanding of electricity and ability to read wiring diagrams. Ability to read and apply repair manuals. Knowledge of air conditioning system operation and repair. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements and permits. Basic mathematics skills relevant to the role. Skills to diagnose engine and component malfunctions. Use of personal tools required. Ability to pass a physical examination and drug test. Working Conditions and Demands Approximately 90% indoors; involves driving vehicles for testing and replacements. Exposure to hazardous equipment, engine parts, burns, chemicals, exhaust fumes, dust, and odors from diesel and welding activities. Physical Requirements Heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
