Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Job Overview Staff Machine Learning Engineer – Core AI/ML team at Remitly. You will lead the design, development, and deployment of large‑scale machine learning systems that power our global remittance products. You Will Lead the end‑to‑end ML lifecycle from raw data to EDA, model training, offline/online evaluation, and production deployment. Design, build, and scale feature pipelines for batch and real‑time ML applications. Partner with data scientists, product owners, and engineers to transform prototypes into reliable, customer‑facing systems. Optimize models and pipelines using MLOps best practices (automated retraining, drift detection, CI/CD, monitoring, observability). Mentor and lead other engineers, champion design reviews, technical discussions, and maintain a high bar for code quality. Drive technical strategy and influence ML architecture decisions across the organization. You Have Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or equivalent practical experience. 10+ years delivering Machine Learning systems in production. Strong programming skills in Python, Go, Scala or similar. Hands‑on experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, scikit‑learn, NumPy. Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Desirable experience: Deep Learning algorithms, Large Language Models, Causal Inference, Personalization, Knowledge Graphs, Natural Language Processing. Strong preference for experience with transformer architectures, pretraining, post‑training, and fine‑tuning of LLMs. Demonstrated leadership of cross‑functional ML initiatives and mentoring of senior engineers. Compensation Base salary range: $208,000 – $260,000. Equity is part of the total compensation plan.
