The Clinical Research Support (CRS) - Clinical Trial Specimen Processing Specialist supports oncology clinical trials conducted within Fred Hutch Cancer Center and its research partners. This position is responsible for the collection, preparation, processing, documentation, storage, and shipment of clinical trial specimens in accordance with study protocols, laboratory manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and regulatory requirements. The Clinical Trial Laboratory Technician supports protocol-required laboratory activities, specimen tracking, and research documentation to help ensure the accurate and timely handling of research specimens.

Reporting to the CRS Clinical Trials Specimen Processing Manager, the Clinical Trial Specimen Processing Specialist I works closely with laboratory staff, research coordinators, clinic personnel, investigators, sponsors, and other study team members to support clinical trial operations. This position is an integral part of the Clinical Trial Research Laboratory and contributes to the successful execution of oncology clinical trials through high-quality specimen processing, documentation, and laboratory support services.

This role may work with radiopharmaceutical specimens.

This is an onsite role at our South Lake Union Campus supporting Tuesday-Friday,nine hour shift and Saturday, 4 hour shift.

Responsibilities

• Process clinical trial specimens according to study protocols, laboratory manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including specimen preparation, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, storage, and shipment.
• Perform routine laboratory techniques related to clinical trial specimen handling, including separation of serum, plasma, and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) samples.
• Prepare, package, and ship research specimens to central laboratories while ensuring all shipment requirements and timelines are met.
• Complete laboratory requisition forms, specimen tracking records, shipping documentation, and other study-related records accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and contemporaneous records of specimen collection, processing, storage, and shipment activities in accordance with ALCOA+ principles, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and applicable study, institutional, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with preparation and maintenance of research laboratory kits and supplies used for clinical trial specimen collection and processing.
• Monitor laboratory inventories and notify laboratory leadership of supply, equipment, or specimen storage needs.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff, research coordinators, clinic personnel, and other study team members to support protocol-required specimen collection and processing activities.
• Follow all applicable laboratory safety, biosafety, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory, and institutional requirements while maintaining participant confidentiality.
• Support daily laboratory operations and perform additional duties as assigned to ensure efficient and compliant clinical trial research laboratory activities.
• Travel between Fred Hutch clinical and laboratory locations, including South Lake Union and Montlake campuses, to retrieve, transport, and process clinical trial specimens in accordance with protocol requirements, established timelines, and specimen handling procedures.
• Provide support for protocol-required specimen collection and processing activities that occur outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, utilizing a flexible work schedule to ensure compliance with study-specific collection and processing windows.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field; OR
• Associate degree in a scientific field and one (1) years of laboratory experience; OR
• High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years of laboratory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Lab experience, working in a lab setting.
• Working knowledge of QA (Quality Assurance).
• Facilitate the timely delivery of requested documents supporting QA.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Experience with a wide range of computerized systems.
• Good time management skills.
• The ability to work well on a team as well as independently.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.77 to $42.39 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
