Job Title: Registered Nurse

- Must have at least 2 years of Emergency Room experience.
- Must be able to work independently in a high-stress environment.


Description:
Department: Emergency Room.
Trauma Level: Critical Access.
Number of Beds/Trauma Bays: 5 beds including 2 bed trauma bays.
Triage Area: Yes, travelers will triage.
Holding Area: Holds are intermixed; nurses will care for patients.
Psych/Seclusion Rooms: No.
Security: Not in-house 24/7.
Average Patients Treated: Approximately 20 patients per day.
Nurse: Patient Ratios: Depending on acuity, 1 RN on days, 1 RN on nights, and 1 midshift.
Common Diagnoses: Mainly adults and geriatrics, occasional pediatrics; common conditions include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and abdominal pain.
Common Drips: Cardiac drips, insulin drips, nitroglycerin, heparin, antibiotics.
ED Physician Coverage: Will staff one or the other, with an MD or DO on call if a mid-level provider is present.
Charge Nurse: Shared charge with inpatient; charge nurse will assist in the Emergency Room when busy.
Nurse Aids: No aides; EMTs will assist if they bring in a CODE.
Respiratory Therapy: RNs will perform all breathing treatments, ABGs, and EKGs; RT is not in-house.
Equipment: CPAP, high flow, vents until transport if needed; CRNA will manage intubations and sedation.
Tele/Monitor Techs: RNs must be able to read and interpret.
Imaging: X-Ray and CT in-house 24/7; transport all patients unless critical.
Phlebotomy: RNs will generally draw from IV starts; phlebotomy will assist if needed.
Shift Scheduling: Days 6 am-6:30 pm, Midshift 11 am-11:30 pm, Nights 6 pm-6:30 am; block scheduling with set rotation.
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
Holiday Requirements: Yes, if it falls on scheduled rotation.
Floating Requirements: May float to acute care to assist if needed.
Scrub Color: Any color.
Department Specific Orientation: 1 day, additional orientation if needed.
