Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Telemetry Float Pool

Location

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM or 7:00 PM–7:30 PM) | 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period required | Holidays required based on unit needs | No call; standby response time of 30 minutes if placed on low-census standby

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care across multiple medical-surgical, telemetry, neuro, and observation units as part of a float pool cluster, with patient ratios typically ranging from 1:3–6 depending on unit assignment
• Float as needed to assigned units including med/surg, oncology, lung transplant, cardiac surgery, trauma, organ transplant, neuro, stroke, epilepsy, ENT, cardiac procedures, observation, neuro rehab, surgical landing zone, ED holds, and additional satellite campuses; float assignments are mandatory and cannot be refused
• Complete bedside reporting and a quality two-person skin assessment within the first four hours of each shift
• Pass a Basic Dysrhythmia Exam prior to contract start (passing score of 80% within 2 attempts); failure to pass results in ineligibility for placement in this region for 6 months
• Successfully complete a pass/fail Day 1 SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, with strict adherence to sterile field technique required
• Update department codes with each unit clock-in and be present on the unit by 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM to participate in shift huddle

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (Registered Nurse)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg/Telemetry experience required
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Demonstrated competency in sterile field technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible (driver's license used as source of truth)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Teaching hospital experience preferred due to the complexity and acuity of the patient population
• NIHSS certification preferred but not required
• Comfort with high-acuity, high-complexity patient populations across diverse specialty units
