Position Overview Under the direction of the department supervisor, provide academic tutoring services to a variety of individuals and groups; create and implement tutorial programs that guide and assist students with homework, problem solving, report writing and test preparation; provide proactive and ongoing student retention services to students needing assistance. Responsibilities Provide academic tutoring at an advanced level to a variety of individuals and groups. Create and implement tutorial programs that guide and assist students. Provide proactive and ongoing student retention services to students needing assistance. Conduct supplemental instruction sessions. Coordinate and schedule the activities of assigned personnel and oversee the completion of tasks. Evaluate student needs and develop appropriate course of action. Administer tests and consult with educational departments and instructors. Draft materials and handouts for use within assigned instructional sessions. Maintain records and data to monitor and assess students’ progress. Provide clerical support to staff as needed. Qualifications Knowledge of a variety of academic or vocational subject areas. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Basic arithmetic skills. Understanding of the general needs and behaviors of students from various ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. Proficiency in instructional methods and techniques. Ability to provide tutoring at an advanced level and conduct supplemental instruction sessions. Completion of high school with at least a 3.0 GPA in the assigned educational specialty area. Increasingly responsible tutoring experience and advanced subject matter expertise across multiple areas.
