Clinical Nurse

Job Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager or Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

Education:
- Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
- Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluates the developmental level of the patient and factors affecting learning ability.
Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
- Participates in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
- Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plans.
- Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
- Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues and those at high risk for discharge planning.
Leadership:
- Develops goals to promote professional growth.
- Achieves goals and objectives within the identified time frame or renegotiates with the supervisor.
- Facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively communicates within established systems.
- Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to co-workers.
- Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
- Includes physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data before communicating with others.
- Anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
- Develops relationships with families to enhance their advocacy for the patient.
Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Communicates effectively to convey planning objectives.
- Addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
Research:
- Reads relevant journals and articles applicable to practice.
- Brings ideas and questions to the staff for evaluation of applicability.

Skills & Experience

Required Skills & Experience:
- One (1) year of nursing experience.
- Two (2) or more years of MedSurg/Tele experience.
- Previous neuro experience.
- Remote Tele experience highly preferred.
Education:
- Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
- BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing preferred.
