The Native Village of Eyak (NVE) is a federally recognized Tribal government based in Cordova, Alaska—a remote, roadless community nestled between the eastern Chugach Mountains and the waters of Prince William Sound. Our ancestral homelands have long served as a traditional gathering place for the Eyak, Aleut, Tlingit, and Athabascan peoples and span more than 55 million acres of land and sea, encompassing the Copper River Delta and the Northern Gulf of Alaska. NVE is governed by a seven-member elected Council, which upholds our Constitution and Bylaws. The Council provides strategic leadership and direction to the Administrative Executive Director and Health Executive Director to implement projects and programs in alignment with a strategic plan.
The Ilanka Community Health Center is a primary care outpatient clinic serving the Cordova community. As both an Indian Health Service facility and a Community Health Center, Ilanka offers affordable, high-quality care through contract health services and sliding fee scales. In addition to medical services, Ilanka also provides behavioral health support.

About This Role
FLEET MECHANIC
Work Location: 100% onsite in Cordova, AK. Remote/hybrid work not available for this position. - Labor Distribution (Fund Codes): 00021
Team: Capital Projects - Salary Grade: $33.94 per hour + DOE
Reports To: Capital Projects Director - Schedule: Seasonal (max of 6 months per year); 40 hours per week
FLSA Status: Hourly & Eligible for Overtime Pay - Last Revised: August 2026

POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanic will assist the Capital Projects Director by managing the upkeep and repair of all company vehicles and equipment at NVE. This position is crucial for maintaining optimal machinery functionality and improving organizational productivity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Primary duties involve diagnosing mechanical problems in diesel engines with advanced diagnostic equipment,
- Performing routine maintenance such as oil changes and inspections
- Executing complex repairs, including engine overhauls and system replacements.
- Strictly follow all safety regulations and industry standards throughout all work
- Keep detailed, organized records of maintenance and repairs to monitor fleet performance and aid in future budgeting
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on company vehicles
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in diesel engines and related systems
- Perform necessary adjustments and replacements of parts as needed
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure vehicle availability and reliability
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Other duties as developed and assigned

· Immediately reports unsafe conditions, hazards, or injuries to HR or the designated safety contact.
· Attends all mandatory special events, meetings, and trainings.
· Assists with special events, meetings, and trainings as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Required: High school diploma or equivalent
· Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance
· Required: Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record in accordance with the company's auto insurance policy requirements.
· Preferred: Certification in diesel mechanics or related field preferred
