Job Title: Mechanical Technician I Job ID: Location: Bloomfield, CT Duration: Months On W Contract Description Modify, test and repair machinery and equipment under the direction of engineering staff or physical scientists. Typically requires a degree in engineering technology and experience with engineering computer applications. Helps engineers design, test, and manufacture industrial machinery, consumer products, and other equipment. Possesses technical skills, including the ability to apply engineering drawings, and has experience using computer applications related to the engineering field. Education / Experience Associate degree in engineering technology or related field is a bonus; entry‑level experience required. Responsibility Level Exercises moderate independent judgment with direction from supervisor; skills: creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem‑solving ability (required). Team player and detail oriented (required). Basic ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations (typically required). Basic ability to perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction and installation standards and specifications (typically required). Basic knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology (typically required); previous experience with computer applications and design software related to engineering field (typically required). Major Job Duties and Responsibilities Prepare parts sketches, write work orders and purchase requests to be furnished by outside contractors. Draft detail drawings or sketches for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet, or wood shops. Review project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, and troubleshoot technical problems such as redesign. Review project instructions and specifications to identify, modify and plan fabrication, assembly and testing requirements. Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with staff, and coordinate corrections. Inspect lines and figures for clarity and return erroneous drawings to designer for correction. Evaluate tool drawing designs by measuring drawing dimensions and comparing with original specifications for form and function using engineering skills. Top Skills You Are Looking For Mechanical assembly skills with both small and larger parts and components using hand tools. Basic computer skills and communication/writing skills. On time and reliable. Additional Manager Notes This onsite role involves assembling diesel engine test and prototype hardware, and running tests on that hardware in the engineering lab.
