Storm Duty Requirements Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures. X 5 Days The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The internship program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study. POSITION SUMMARY/DETAILS: This Intern position offers a unique opportunity for college degree-seeking students to engage in a multifaceted role centered around network device testing and engineering design. The selected student will actively participate in the evaluation and testing of network devices and utilize their engineering skills to contribute to the design process. Accountabilities: Network Device Testing: Conduct rigorous testing and evaluation of network devices, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards. This includes hardware and software testing, troubleshooting, and documentation. Engineering Design Support: Collaborate with the engineering team to contribute to the design and development of new network devices or improvements to existing ones. This may involve prototyping and technical documentation. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of testing procedures, results, and design modifications. Produce technical documentation to support product development and regulatory compliance. Collaborative Contribution: Actively engage in team discussions, sharing insights and ideas to enhance network device performance and engineering design processes. Physical Location of Co-op Energy Control Center: 820 South 78th St. Tampa, FL 33619 Preferred Availability Part - Time (20-30 hours) WORKING CONDITIONS Mostly in a normal office environment, a successful candidate will visit the field on average once a month. This may include riding in a company vehicle on-road and off-road, walking on uneven surfaces, and entering substations. QUALIFICATIONS Education: The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline. Preferred/Related Discipline : Electrical Year in School : Junior or Senior; Graduate Level Student Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Network Understanding: Basic knowledge of network protocols, configurations, and devices, enabling effective testing and troubleshooting of network equipment. Engineering Aptitude: A solid foundation in engineering principles, including mechanical or electrical engineering, to contribute to the design and development processes. Analytical Thinking: A logical and analytical mindset to derive insights from data and apply them to improve network device performance and design. Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex technical challenges systematically and creatively. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail, particularly when conducting testing, recording data, and documenting procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability in results. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. A pre-employment drug screening, physical exam, as well as a background check (including employment, criminal and motor vehicle) will also be conducted as part of the pre-employment screening.
