Underwriting Specialist / Executive Underwriter Property

Overview This position is responsible for underwriting new business and renewals, driving profitable growth, managing complex accounts, and promoting team development. The role involves preparing accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges while ensuring compliance with state laws and company guidelines. Responsibilities Review, analyze, accept, and decline property risks to ensure profitability. Underwrite and select new business that will produce underwriting profit. Manage an existing renewal book and implement corrective measures to meet profitability expectations. Communicate with regional managers and national product line leaders regarding individual accounts and recommend improvements in operations, systems, and procedures. Participate in audits and underwriting meetings as required. Build and maintain quality relationships with key producers, monitor the appointed producer base for profitability and production. Review forms and pricing of competitors and effectively market Markel products. Requirements Minimum 5+ years of current property underwriting experience. Demonstrated technical knowledge and progressive responsibility. Marketing and relationship building skills. Four‑year college degree desired; insurance designations a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Team player who thrives in a flexible and spontaneous business environment. 20% travel in the Central Region of the US. Benefits Competitive salary range: $104,480 – $143,660 with 25% incentive; Executive range $116,080 – $159,610 with 30% incentive. Health, dental, and vision insurance options.
