Special Education Paraprofessional

Start Date: August 6, for the 2026-2027 School Year Position Type: Full-time, 164 days per year Location: Cañon City High School Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the Instructional Support Salary Schedule based on years of experience and education, $17.51-18.56 per hour/minimum pay, $50.00 a day extra if assigned as a certified substitute teacher. Additional Center Based Stipend ranging from $800-$1,200 depending on start date and student assignments. Purpose of the Job Operates under general guidelines provided by a supervising teacher under the direction of the site administrator(s), and provides instructional, supervisory general and/or special educational assistance to students and teachers. Special Education implements specialized programming and/or instructional support both in and outside of the general education classroom, supervised by the special education teacher for the purpose of student growth. Qualifications and Skills Proficiency on paraprofessional assessment, possess an AA Degree, or the equivalency of two years of undergraduate college classes (approximately 48 hours) preferred. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public. Ability to read, write and speak in order to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities. Experience in Lindamood Bell preferred. MANDT Training to be completed upon hire. Pass pre-employment physical. Must be willing to obtain if needed a substitute teaching license (paid for by district). Position Duties Include The ability to work with multiple grade level students and sensitive material. Demonstrate reliability in all work situations. Present a professional appearance personally and in the work area. Promote and maintain positive working relationships with peers, students, parents and the public. Be knowledgeable about the job. Always strive to stay on task and produce high quality work. Under the direction of the supervising teacher, implement schedules and routines, work 1-to-1, in small groups or in full classroom settings. Complete and perform clerical tasks, and support school-wide and classroom management plans. Meet the educational, physical and emotional needs of a variety of students assigned. Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements. Possess skills to be able to utilize basic technology as directed by the District to communicate and function effectively. May include outside supervision in inclement weather. Assist with supervisory, clerical or other job-related duties as assigned. Adhere to the district classified handbook and school staff handbook. May be asked to sub in classrooms when needed.
