Job Title: Critical Care Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1845-0715 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Valid professional license in the state of practice Certifications: Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association Must-Have: Verification of suicide training and verification of demographic data via Nursys e-Notify Description: Critical Care Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Critical Care Nurses include: Consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Preparing and administering prescribed medications orally, subcutaneously, or through an IV and recording these actions. Reporting adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with established policies. Providing basic bedside care. Initiating patient education plans as prescribed by the physician. Teaching patients and families how to manage their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, self-administration of medication, and rehabilitation. Recording patients' medical information and vital signs. Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions. Taking samples for lab work and ordering prescribed lab work. Preparing equipment and assisting healthcare professionals during patient examination and treatment. Responding to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols. Recording all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner. Applying hemodynamic, phlebotomy, and IV protocols. Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment used on patients and interpreting electronic displays. Monitoring catheters, leads, and tubing for proper placement and functioning. Initiating corrective action when monitoring equipment indicates adverse symptoms. Holiday coverage may be required.
