Supervisor, Blood Bank (NE) - SJH CharterCARE Health Partners – North Providence, Rhode Island, United States Admin/Clerical/Secretarial About this position Summary: Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager the Blood Bank Supervisor performs all testing in the Blood Bank including procedures in ABO compatibility testing, antibody detection and identification, and serology. The Blood Bank Supervisor is responsible for department policy and procedure, training of employees, staffing, and ongoing technical competency assessment. Must meet per diem requirements set forth by business. Education BS, MT (ASCP); ASCP Certification eligible required. Licensure None Experience A minimum of 5 years directly related experience. Proficient in the use of various software applications is required. Skills and Qualifications Ability to operate laboratory equipment (e.g., pipettes, test tubes, inoculating loops) and adjust instruments to perform laboratory procedures. Ability to use an electronic keyboard to operate laboratory instruments and to calculate, record, evaluate and transmit laboratory information. Strong organizational and priority-setting skills. Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines. Effective interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, considering cultural background, linguistic skills, and age of customers. Ability to lead and train employees. Ability to create, evaluate and monitor a department budget and make financial assessments and decisions. Maintains information confidential (HIPAA). Demonstrated customer service skills. Ability to apply responsive customer service skills when interacting with customers of diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with peers and interdisciplinary teams. Knowledge of state and national standards (e.g., JCAHO, CAP, AABB and RI Department of Health). Excellent communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills. Leadership skills in motivating individuals and developing group cohesion. Ability to make high-level strategic and complex decisions and assume responsibility for such judgments. Coaching, teaching, mentoring and problem-solving skills. Working Conditions, Physical Environment and Safety Physical ability to move about the clinical laboratory, perform moderately taxing work, and endure prolonged sitting or standing.
