ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Crescent Allergy S.C. is a physician-led outpatient allergy and immunology practice dedicated to delivering high-quality, personalized patient care. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Assistant / Receptionist to become an integral part of our clinical team. The ideal candidate is clinically competent, organized, and passionate about patient-centered care.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a dual-role position combining hands-on clinical medical assisting with front desk and administrative responsibilities. The MA / Receptionist will work closely with the allergist to support daily clinic operations, perform allergy-specific diagnostic procedures, and ensure a smooth and welcoming patient experience from check-in through check-out.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Allergy Testing & Immunotherapy

▸ Perform percutaneous (skin prick) and intradermal allergy testing per physician order

▸ Prepare and administer allergy immunotherapy injections (subcutaneous immunotherapy / SCIT)

▸ Monitor patients post-injection for adverse reactions; initiate emergency response protocols as needed

▸ Maintain and rotate allergen extract vials; document lot numbers and expiration dates

Pulmonary Function & Respiratory Procedures

▸ Perform spirometry (PFT) testing including pre- and post-bronchodilator studies

▸ Coach patients through proper spirometry technique to ensure accurate, reproducible results

▸ Set up and administer nebulizer treatments (albuterol and other prescribed agents)

▸ Document pulmonary function results in EMR and flag abnormal findings for physician review

Patient Assessment & Clinical Support

▸ Obtain and document patient vital signs: blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, weight

▸ Record comprehensive patient histories including chief complaint, medication lists, and allergy history

▸ Prepare exam rooms and assist the allergist during patient evaluations and procedures

▸ Perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens for laboratory processing when required

▸ Administer oral challenges and food allergy evaluations under physician supervision

▸ Assist with patch testing for contact dermatitis evaluation

Medication & Supply Management

▸ Maintain accurate medication logs and ensure all emergency supplies (epinephrine, crash kit) are stocked and in-date

▸ Process prescription refill requests and medication prior authorizations

▸ Maintain OSHA-compliant sharps disposal and biohazard waste protocols

ADMINISTRATIVE & FRONT DESK RESPONSIBILITIES

▸ Manage patient check-in and check-out workflow with accuracy and professionalism

▸ Schedule appointments, manage the provider's daily schedule, and handle multi-line phone coverage

▸ Verify insurance eligibility and obtain necessary authorizations prior to appointments

▸ Accurately document patient encounters and update medical records in eClinicalWorks (ECW)

▸ Process referrals, coordinate with outside providers, and manage incoming records requests

▸ Collect co-pays, post charges, and reconcile daily transactions

QUALIFICATIONS

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA / RMA) preferred; or equivalent clinical training

▸ Minimum 1 year of clinical medical assisting experience preferred; allergy or specialty setting a plus

▸ Proficiency in or ability to rapidly learn eClinicalWorks (ECW) EMR

▸ Knowledge of allergy testing procedures, immunotherapy protocols, and respiratory diagnostics preferred

▸ Current BLS/CPR certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

▸ Strong clinical documentation skills

▸ Familiarity with prior authorization processes and insurance verification
