Position Description Lead structural design from concept through construction, applying advanced engineering principles to complex building projects in high seismic regions. Collaborate with clients and guide project teams to deliver innovative, practical solutions. Ideal Candidate Experienced, licensed California Structural Engineer with 5‑7+ years in seismic design and diverse structural systems. Passionate about mentoring junior staff and driving projects forward with technical expertise and client focus. Compensation & Benefits The annual salary range for this position is $120,000–$137,000 depending on office location, education, and experience. Job Summary Facilitate the design and engineering of structural systems for building structures and facilities from pre‑schematic phase through construction closeout with limited direction from senior technical staff. Responsibilities Determine project design decisions based on client and project requirements, such as load requirements, governing codes, architectural constraints, operational constraints, fabrication and erection requirements. Apply advanced theoretical knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles and concepts. Oversee work of junior engineers, designers and/or drafters in production of structural construction documents including drawings, specifications, bidding, and construction administration for projects. Develop technical skills of junior staff with empathy and a genuine interest in the career progression of colleagues. Perform structural calculations by applying appropriate system concepts and layouts. Review RFIs, submittals, and other construction‑related documents. Manage multiple moderate‑size projects or portions of major projects with minimal supervision from senior technical staff. Participate in developing client proposals including preparing scope, budgets, and schedules. Maintain close relationship with client during project development, execution, and completion. Participate in client and design team meetings as well as plan review and approval processes. Pursue business development efforts. Minimum Requirements Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering and 5‑7+ years of relevant experience with a stable track record. California Professional Civil or Structural Engineering license. Experience in seismic design, seismic evaluation, and retrofit of existing buildings in high‑seismic regions. Ability to perform complex structural calculations such as linear and nonlinear analysis with minimal direction. Demonstrated design skills with steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures. Familiarity with California Building Codes and ASCE 41 Standards. Knowledge of modeling applications: ETABS, RISA, RAM, Revit, MathCAD, SAP2000, AutoCAD, Tekla. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. Desired Qualifications California Structural Engineer license. Active participation in professional activities related to structural or earthquake engineering. Proficiency with Python, Rhino, or Grasshopper. Participation in project teams for delivering complex HCAI projects. Experience supervising, coordinating, or mentoring junior staff.
