Endocrine conditions are often complex and involve many systems within the body. Our endocrinologists are experts at diagnosing and treating many diseases and disorders, ranging from diabetes to thyroid disorders and cancers. As a Medical Assistant on the Endocrinology Team, you will utilize your medical and administrative skills to provide support to patients and caregivers under the supervision of a physician or nurse. All your work helps ensure the best possible health outcomes. Additionally, you will receive sample opportunities to enhance your skills, gain hands-on experience and explore advanced positions at Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Assist with performing screenings and treatments by gathering and updating information related to health maintenance, identifying medication changes, updating allergy information, collecting specimens, performing tests and documenting patient care.
- Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
- Administer specific medications under the direction of the provider.
- Maintain equipment, medical supplies and examination areas.
- Perform administrative/clerical duties, such as filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an approved Medical Assisting program
- Military training as a hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross - If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period
- Completion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experience
- Current demonstrated clinical proficiency
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Medical Assisting certification (CMA, NCMA or CCMA)
- Successful completion of a Cleveland Clinic externship
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires knowledge of all aspects of patient care including assessing; planning, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the patient's progress through the entire continuum of care in conjunction with the R.N. or physician.
- This position requires frequent walking, sitting, and standing.
- Frequent talking and listening when giving instructions and explanations.
- Frequent use of the phone; fax machines, and occasional use of the computer.
- Work is heavy, with constant lifting and moving patients, carrying equipment, supplies, and material up to 50 pounds without help and over 50 pounds with the help of mechanical devices or other personnel.
- You will be stooping, pushing, and pulling when moving a patient into position for treatment; also you will be reaching, handling, feeling, and manipulation of equipment into position.
- The majority of the time employee spends indoors in air-conditioned areas.
- The potential for exposure to blood and blood-borne pathogens is significant.
- Clinical exposure to patients requires the use of personal protective equipment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- This position is high exposure to infectious wastes such as blood and bodily fluids that mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles as appropriate.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures
