JOB OVERVIEW

The Server is a primary ambassador of the VIEWHOUSE experience. Under the direction of restaurant leadership, the Server delivers knowledgeable, warm, and attentive food and beverage service from the initial welcome through the final farewell. This role owns the guest relationship at the table, guides dining decisions with confidence, coordinates seamlessly with the service and culinary teams, and protects the accuracy, timing, cleanliness, and financial integrity of every experience.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Welcome each guest promptly and warmly; establish an attentive, professional presence and tailor the style of service to the occasion and guest preferences.
• Guide guests through the menu with comprehensive knowledge of ingredients, preparation methods, spice levels, tacos, shared plates, entrées, brunch offerings, desserts, cocktails, tequila, mezcal, spirits, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.
• Take accurate food and beverage orders, clarify modifications, repeat key details when appropriate, and enter orders promptly into the point-of-sale system.
• Identify allergies, dietary restrictions, celebrations, timing needs, and other special requests; communicate them clearly and follow all established allergy and safety procedures.
• Use suggestive selling with integrity by making thoughtful recommendations, building complete dining experiences, and recognizing opportunities for pairings, premium selections, and celebratory enhancements.
• Maintain active awareness of every table throughout the meal, anticipate needs, refill beverages, reset and clear appropriately, and coordinate coursing without interrupting conversation or creating unnecessary delays.
• Communicate continuously with hosts, server assistants, food runners, bartenders, expos, chefs, and managers to ensure accurate pacing, proper seat positions, and seamless handoffs.
• Present and serve cocktails, tequila, mezcal, wine, beer, and other beverages according to VIEWHOUSE standards and within the employee’s level of training and authorization; request bartender or management support when appropriate.
• Verify food and beverage quality, presentation, temperature, and accuracy before service; resolve concerns promptly and involve a manager before a problem escalates.
• Maintain control of guest checks, payment methods, discounts, voids, comps, gift cards, and cash in accordance with Company procedures; ensure all checks are accurate and properly closed.
• Accurately report and participate in the location’s lawful tip-pooling and tip-claiming procedures as communicated by the Company.
• Complete opening, running, and closing side work, including stocking, polishing, sanitation, station organization, and preparation for the next service period.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and safe dining-room, service-station, and back-of-house work areas in compliance with health, sanitation, and safety standards.
• Attend pre-shift meetings, tastings, training sessions, and departmental meetings; retain and apply current menu, beverage
• Protect guest privacy and Company confidential information, including guest preferences, reservation details, payment information, recipes, pricing, and operating procedures.
• Present a polished appearance in the complete approved uniform and demonstrate respectful, composed, and courteous conduct with guests, coworkers, vendors, and leadership.
• Perform other duties and support other service positions as assigned based on business volume and operational needs.
• Accurately participate in the Company's lawful tip pooling, tip sharing, and tip reporting procedures, as applicable to the position. Employees are expected to understand and comply with all Company policies regarding the distribution and reporting of gratuities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must meet all legal age requirements for serving alcoholic beverages and maintain any food-handler, alcohol-service, or other certifications required by law or Company policy.

Experience

• Previous serving experience in a full-service restaurant required; upscale, high-volume, Mexican-inspired, or cocktail-focused restaurant experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple tables, coursed dining, guest payments, and service recovery in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge / Skills

• Strong working knowledge of professional table service, restaurant sequence of service, point-of-sale systems, cash handling, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service.
• Ability to learn and retain detailed culinary and beverage information and explain it in clear, guest-friendly language.
• Excellent verbal communication, listening, organization, judgment, and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, remain calm under pressure, and use tact in stressful or emotionally charged guest situations.
• Ability to read and understand menus, recipes, guest checks, POS screens, written instructions, allergy notes, and training materials in the language(s) required to perform the role safely and effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout preparation, service, and closing duties, frequently traveling throughout the dining room, bar, kitchen, and service areas.
• Frequently bend, reach, balance, stoop, crouch, grasp, and use repetitive hand and wrist motions to operate POS equipment, carry service ware, and perform side work.
• Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, including trays, racks, chairs, tables, beverage containers, and small equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Safely balance and carry trays containing food, glassware, and beverages in crowded and dimly lit conditions.
• Hear and communicate effectively in a busy environment with music, kitchen noise, and multiple simultaneous conversations.
• Work indoors and outdoors in a fast-paced restaurant environment with exposure to heat, steam, sharp objects, hot plates, cleaning chemicals, wet floors, and varying temperatures.
• Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and periods of high business volume.

EMPLOYMENT EXPECTATIONS

• Maintain regular and punctual attendance and follow established call-off and scheduling procedures.
• Accurately record all time worked. Working off the clock is prohibited, and overtime requires advance authorization while remaining payable when worked.
• Comply with the VIEWHOUSE Employee Handbook, all training materials, Company directives, safety rules, dress and appearance standards, anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, confidentiality obligations, and all applicable laws.
• Immediately report workplace injuries, unsafe conditions, suspected harassment or discrimination, wage concerns, or other policy violations through the appropriate reporting channels.
• Remain free from impairment while working, on Company premises, or representing the Company.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Hourly Wage: USD $12.14 per hour

Classification: Non-Exempt; Tipped Position

VIEWHOUSE may apply the tip credit permitted by applicable law. The employee’s hourly wage plus tips must equal at least the applicable minimum wage. If earnings fall below that amount, VIEWHOUSE will pay the difference.

This is a non-exempt, tipped hourly position. Employees in this role participate in the Company's tip pooling and/or tip sharing program in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local law and Company policy. Tip distributions are based upon the Company's established tip pool procedures, which may be modified from time to time in accordance with applicable law.
