Assistant Professor of School Psychology

The Department of Psychology at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of School Psychology. The primary teaching responsibilities will be in the M.S. in School Psychology - Specialist program, recently approved for NASP Candidacy Status. This is a 100%, 9-month, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary, DOE, and full employee benefits package, with an expected start date in August 2027. Summer teaching options are available. The Department of Psychology at UAA offers a BA/BS in Psychology, MS in Clinical Psychology (Clinical & Applied Behavior Analysis Tracks), MS in School Psychology - Specialist, and Ph.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology (APA accredited) degrees. In addition, the Department offers a graduate certificate in Children’s Mental Health. The Department prepares students: (1) for advanced study in the social and health sciences, and (2) to become members of the behavioral health workforce. The department also maintains the Psychological Services Center, a clinic that provides low-cost mental health services to campus and community members and serves as the on-campus training clinic for graduate programs. The department strives to offer degree and certificate programs that meet the needs of the state of Alaska. To thrive in this role, applicants should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to teach core and specialized courses in the department’s curriculum, with a focus on culturally responsive behavioral assessment, intervention, and consultation; demonstrated potential to support and mentor students; demonstrated commitment to student success; knowledge of innovative teaching practice for online or hybrid formats; potential to establish an independent research program that will build on and add to existing community partnerships and current program grants; and strong potential for pursuing and securing external funding. Preferred Experience: Candidates with experience with P-12 populations in a school setting; experience in behavioral assessment, intervention, and consultation; evidence of effective teaching across modalities, including online or hybrid formats; experience teaching or working in an open-access, public university; evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration or applied/community-engaged scholarship; experience or demonstrated potential in contributing to interdisciplinary programs; and knowledge of regional issues or communities relevant to the institution’s mission (e.g., Circumpolar North, Alaska Native communities, rural engagement). To learn more about the MS in School Psychology - Specialist program visit the program website: Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in School Psychology or closely related field by the time of appointment. Licensed or license-eligible as a School Psychologist in Alaska. Disciplinary expertise in school psychology. Demonstrated capacity for scholarly or creative activity, including publications, presentations, or a defined research agenda. Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the college/university level. Conduct instructional, research and service activities as part of the workload. Teach primarily online graduate courses in the School Psychology training program with some undergraduate courses, with a typical workload of 3 courses per semester. Undergraduate courses may include Introduction to Psychology, Human Development, Child Development, or Child Psychopathology. Graduate courses will include developing and teaching curriculum in the School Psychology program, areas based on candidate's expertise and areas of interest, with preferences in the abililty to teach assessment and intervention coursework. Teaching may also include a combination of assisting with programmatic efforts to obtain NASP accreditation; supervising practicum and internship placements (course credit); and mentoring and advising graduate students in the school psychology program. Faculty member is expected to develop a program of research consistent with their area of specialization in P - 12 student populations, and pursue external funding. Faculty members are to actively participate in service activities: Serving on department, college, and university committees; and providing professional and public service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
