Staff Attorney II - Commerce Legal

Job Purpose or Objective(s): Provide research and legal advice to the assigned departments of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. You will report to the Director.Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pmPrimary Tasks:1. You will research the intent of laws and judicial decisions and applies the law to the circumstances.2. Work on unusual or complex problems and provide solutions.3. You will negotiate contractual agreements and provide legal advice to avoid legal liability.4. Provide legal representation to the Nation in all requested and required legal and liability areas.5. You will manage the case management of in-house matters.6. Review legal vendor billings accumulated pursuant to cases and projects assigned.7. Prepare, negotiate, review and advise on work pertaining to contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments on behalf of the Nation.8. Provide guidance to lower level Attorneys. 9. Perform other tasks as may be assigned.Job Requirements:Juris Doctorate from an accredited law schoolLicensed to practice law by a State within the United StatesAbility to handle a variety of legal fields and proceduresGrasp of the legal issues and requirements of the tribe’s commercial ventures, such as licensing, acquisition and divestitureAdvance understanding of tribal law, sovereignty, and tribal court proceedingsSix [6] years’ experience as an attorneyAbout the Choctaw NationThe Choctaw Nation is the third-largest Indian nation in the United States, with over 200,000 tribal members and more than 11,000 employees.
