Position: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Medicine Talent Area: Advanced Practice Providers Full/Part Time: Full-time Location: Houston, TX, US Shift: 3p-3a and 7p-7a (12-13 shifts per month) Job ID: 424548 Qualifications Required Bachelor’s Degree PA – Certified Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board Pediatric experience strongly preferred Master’s degree in nursing required RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing required (PNP-AC or FNP with ENP strongly preferred) Responsibilities Provide medical services within the education and training of the Physician Assistant and scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and document in medical records Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care Establish a relationship with the patient/family characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration Daily use advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients’ caseload Assess the patient’s physical status through the physical examination Performs or recommends age-appropriate health screening procedures Provides health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians Follow established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems and formulate a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals Accurately evaluate patient’s responses to interventions and modify the plan of care Present and document the data, impression, and plan of care on all patients Consistently demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers Collaborate effectively with other members of the health care disciplines to provide comprehensive care Utilize effective and appropriate interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and/or family and collaborate with them in developing the care plan Request consultation and/or initiate referral for specialized care as appropriate, communicating with the health care team members the comprehensive assessment, impression, and plan of care Consistently serve as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals Consistently apply new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice Demonstrate current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills, maintaining knowledge base by reading professional literature, attending staff development, and continuing education programs annually Participate in departmental Quality Improvement program annually Participate in department and hospital committees, which promote quality nursing, care as assigned Demonstrate NP role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Texas Children’s is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
