Academic Success Manager (East Palo Alto Clubhouse)
The Academic Success Manager has general responsibility for 9th-12th programs that support members' success in school and will report to the Program Director. You will plan, organize, direct and control the program and maintenance of programs related to homework completion, tutoring, and academic mentoring for teens at The East Palo Alto Clubhouse. You shall assume accountability for the results in achieving the outlined goals and objectives of the Education Department.
The Academic Success Manager is responsible for leading and strengthening academic support programming for 9th-12th grade youth at the East Palo Alto Clubhouse. Reporting to the Program Director, this role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs that support student engagement, academic achievement, and post-secondary readiness.
The Academic Success Manager leads academic intervention and enrichment efforts including tutoring, homework support, study groups, mentorship, and high school transition programming. This role also supports recruitment, retention, and family engagement strategies while building strong partnerships with school staff, community partners, and families to help ensure youth receive the academic support and resources needed to thrive in school and beyond.
Academic Program Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic support programming for 9th-12th grade youth at the East Palo Alto Clubhouse
- Build a culture where all youth understand the importance of graduating high school with a clear post-secondary plan
- Ensure academic support programs, including tutoring, homework support, study groups, and academic mentorship, are implemented consistently and at a high level
- Design and implement systems, tools, and engagement strategies that equip staff to effectively connect youth with academic resources and interventions
- Track member participation, engagement, and academic progress to inform program improvements and student support strategies
- Ensure youth with the greatest academic needs are connected to tutoring, mentorship, and academic intervention supports
9th Grade Transition & Student Success
- Lead the development and implementation of the 9th Grade Academy focused on supporting students transitioning into high school
- Create programs and supports that promote academic confidence, belonging, engagement, and long-term student success
- Build partnerships with school staff and academic partners to strengthen support systems for 9th-grade students
- Coordinate quarterly activities and engagement opportunities with Academic School Sites
- Organize parent engagement opportunities that support families in understanding and navigating their student's academic journey
Recruitment, Retention & Outreach
- Own enrollment goals for academic programming including advising, tutoring, and academic mentorship
- Partner with the Program Director and Community Liaison to support site-wide membership and engagement goals
- Build and maintain recruitment pipelines with feeder schools, counselors, teachers, and community partners
- Develop and implement retention and re-engagement strategies for youth participating in academic programs
- Track recruitment and retention trends and adjust outreach strategies based on program needs
- Conduct outreach to youth and families to encourage ongoing participation and engagement
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise Youth Program Leaders, volunteers, tutors, and academic support staff
- Coordinate volunteers and community partners supporting academic programming
- Build collaborative relationships with parents, school staff, and community stakeholders
- Collaborate with Clubhouse staff to strengthen overall teen engagement and student success initiatives
- Attend meetings, trainings, special events, and other organizational activities as required
- Maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of BGCP's values and standards
*Perform additional relevant duties as assigned to support evolving organizational needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with high school-aged youth (9th-12th grade), preferably in an educational, after-school, or youth development setting
- Experience developing, implementing, or facilitating academic support, enrichment, or youth engagement programs
- Knowledge of college access, academic intervention, or youth development best practices preferred
- Experience working within school systems or school-based partnerships preferred
- Experience supervising staff, volunteers, interns, or youth leaders
- Ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and community partners
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; and some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling. The role also requires significant fine finger dexterity and near vision acuity. The position may occasionally involve lifting or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Generally, the job requires approximately 20% sitting and 80% walking or standing. The work environment noise level is typically moderate but may occasionally be louder. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Work Schedule
- Academic School Year: Monday-Friday 10:30am - 7:30pm, occasional evenings and weekends as needed to support programs, events, and organizational activities
- Summer: Monday-Thursday 10:30 - 7:30pm, Friday 12:00pm - 9:00pm, occasional evenings and weekends as needed to support programs, events, and organizational activities
Compensation & Benefits
- Employment Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
- Pay Range: $28.00 - 34.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)
