Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Surgical Critical Care Night Shift

Advanced Practice ProviderThe Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Division in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a qualified Advanced Practice Provider to provide high quality critical care services under the direction of a physician at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. Candidate will be expected to provide clinical excellence and scholarly enthusiasm. The provider will have direct patient care responsibilities. The selected candidate will be appointed as a faculty Instructor and be eligible for full faculty benefits.Primary responsibilities include:Management of patients in the surgical ICU or thoracic surgical ICU at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM. This will include a variety of general surgery, transplant, vascular, cardiothoracic and general thoracic patients.Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinationsFormulate assessments and plans and evaluate the patient response to careOrder and interpret appropriate diagnostic procedures, including, but not limited to x-rays, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, and MR and CT imagingPlace central lines and midlinesPrescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatmentsEnsure timely and accurate documentation in the EPIC electronic medical record systemProvide guidance and work direction to support staff, including, but not limited to nurses, medical assistants, and unit managersCommunicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient careGive direction and support to PA/NP students, medical students, and/or residents assigned to the servicePromote a positive work environment with a team-based approach through supportive and respectful interactions with peers, staff, learners, and facultyOther duties as assignedMinimum qualifications include:Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Program.Board certification by appropriate certifying organizationCertification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.No experience required
