Roadside Fundraising Researchers and Advisors Wanted
The Preventative Search and Rescue Initiative (PSAR Initiative) is exploring whether roadside fundraising could help support our hiking safety education and search and rescue prevention efforts.
We're looking for several volunteers to help us research, discuss, and evaluate the idea.
Our initial thought is to set up near popular hiking destinations in Northern New Jersey and the Catskills and ask hikers and visitors to support our work through donations. Before moving forward, we want to better understand how this would actually work.
We're looking for people who can help answer questions such as:
- What permits would be required?
- Which towns, counties, agencies, or land managers would need to be contacted?
- What locations might work best?
- How do other organizations conduct roadside fundraising?
- How should donations be collected, tracked, and safeguarded?
- What best practices should be followed?
- What mistakes should be avoided?
Some volunteers may want to conduct research, make phone calls, and gather information. Others may simply have relevant experience and be willing to talk with us, answer questions, or share advice.
We are intentionally looking for several people, not just one person, so that we can learn from different backgrounds and perspectives.
If interested, please tell us a little about your background and any experience you have with fundraising, nonprofits, permits, events, municipal government, outdoor recreation, emergency services, or related areas.
