SUMMARY/SCOPE: Program Director over Surgical Technology is a full-time,12-month administrative faculty appointment with teaching responsibilities.This position is responsible for program administration, organization,supervision, continuous quality improvement, and academic oversight, includingcurriculum planning and development, to ensure compliance with CAAHEP/ARC-STSAstandards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These examples do notinclude all possible tasks & do not limit the assignment of related tasks. Bear overall responsibility forthe Surgical Technology education programs, including budgeting, facultyand staff supervision and development, assessment, ongoing curriculumdevelopment and revision, student recruitment, and meeting the accreditationrequirements of CAAHEP/ARC-STSA and the Southern Association of Colleges andSchools (SACSCOC).
Lead continuous quality reviewand improvement activities, including outcomes assessment.
Provide academic oversite,including curriculum planning, development, and revision.
Coordinate and documentadvisory committee meetings, faculty meetings, and recommendations.
Ensure adequate programresources (faculty, clinical sites, equipment, instructional materials).
Support student recruitment,progression, remediation, and retention processes as needed.
Recruit, hire, mentor, manage,and evaluate faculty members and clinical coordinator (full-time and/oradjunct) to meet accreditation requirements for teaching within thisinstitution.
Working with the Director ofClinical Education to obtain clinical practice settings and/or assisting withstudent supervision in the clinic.
Maintain accurate records andensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
Providing evidence of facultyexpertise and knowledge to teach curriculum content. Verifying students' completionof program requirements. Maintaincommunication with the Dean and other University Administrative officials. Completion ofall university required documents including the 5-year Annual Report and theAnnual Assessment of Learning Outcomes (ALOC) reports. Guide and mentor students. Guide long andshort-term strategic planning by providing a vision for the departments. Guide development andmaintenance of departmental policies and procedures. Provide leadership tothe department in scholarly efforts. Promote and supportfaculty professional development. Promote departmentalinvolvement and communication within the college, university and community. Support collaborativeand interdisciplinary experiences for faculty and students. Provide service to theUniversity and community including active participation on various Universityand College Committees.

Minimum of 5 years ofexperience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor insurgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past 10 years.
Must be a graduate of aneducation program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognizedprogrammatic agency. An associate degree is required.
A bachelor's degree is highlyrecommended.
Must possess a credential inthe field of surgical technology through a national certification program thatis accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
Teaching experience in asurgical technology education program is highly recommended and preferred. Must have demonstratedknowledge, skills, and abilities in administration.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must hold a current andunencumbered license or eligibility for licensure to practice as a licensedSurgical Technologist in the State of Texas.
