Position Environmental Specialist in our Simsbury, CT facility, reporting to the Manager of Safety & Regulatory Compliance. Qualifications / Requirements A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the environmental, health and safety, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, or relevant military experience Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, CTDEEP, DoD, DSS, DHS and other Federal, State, and local regulations with respect to environmental protection Must have excellent people skills and demonstrated ability to motivate a workforce and train in a Lean Manufacturing environment Must be fluent in English, and able to obtain/maintain a security clearance Innovative and creative approaches and solutions to problems are important General Responsibilities (but not limited to) Understanding of EPA Regulations and applicable State Regulations and EBAD EHS policies Develop a high-level of state and federal regulatory expertise ensuring compliance needs met (RCRA, DOT, OSHA and CTDEEP) Manage all aspects of the Hazardous Waste Program including the Contingency Plan Preparation of hazardous, chemical, and biological waste for shipment and disposal, including creation of all federal/state waste documents and managing records Safe handling of hazardous waste containers onsite, as well as loading/unloading waste from vehicles Complete all required manifest paperwork and documentation accurately Conduct safety equipment and hazardous waste inspections Occasionally perform and document Environmental Health and Safety audits Observe EHS regulations, wear all required safety equipment, encourage safe working practices, correct obvious hazards immediately or reports them to the proper personnel Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors Conduct spill response measures, including assessment of the spills and cleanup efforts Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation, conduct sampling and prepare applicable EHS reports, as necessary Assist in the compliance of applicable laws and regulations Ability to collaborate with employees to achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance Maintain positive and initiative-taking relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies Perform other work-related tasks as required and assigned Comply with all Company and EHS procedures and policies Facility Specific Responsibilities (but not limited to) Walk the manufacturing floor on a regular basis to establish EHS presence, ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations and provide support Implement, and manage EHS Programs, Policies and Procedures Perform facility Environmental inspections, sampling, and reporting Have knowledge and enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, EPA, DoD, DHS, etc.), including company EHS policies and procedures Ability to oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance i.e., labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc. Assist in emergency response Powered Industrial Truck trained Perform additional duties as assigned Equal Opportunity Employer Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
