Pharmacy Technician

This role supports a highly automated central fill pharmacy that packages and distributes medications to retail pharmacies across multiple states. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will manually fill prescriptions, replenish medications for automated dispensing stations, package medications, stock completed packages, and perform related tasks to ensure accurate, safe, and timely prescription fulfillment in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities include maintaining pharmacy systems and technology, monitoring inventory levels and expiration dates for pharmaceuticals, ensuring medications are continuously replenished, rotating stock on a first-in, first-out basis, monitoring prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals, supporting the facility with reporting and paperwork, preparing reports of pharmacy activities and inventory, informing leadership about incorrect or inefficient processes, ensuring accurate fulfillment of pharmacy prescriptions, using scanners to identify and select the correct pharmaceutical product, entering expiration dates and lot numbers, labeling prescriptions, weighing medications, preparing packages and distributing medications, maintaining the quality, accuracy, and integrity of pharmaceutical and supply inventory, ensuring adherence to documented inventory control procedures, auditing and testing pill cell performance, identifying and properly discarding hazardous waste, processing recalled and expired pharmaceuticals, collaborating effectively with team members, and standing for extended periods in a fast-paced production environment.

Essential skills include meeting state requirements to work as a Pharmacy Technician, active registration in Indiana or Minnesota, experience working as a pharmacy technician, ability to use and maintain pharmacy inventory systems and automated medication counting machines, proficiency with computers and scanners for inventory management, strong attention to detail, ability to follow detailed procedures, and capability to stand for extended periods.

Additional skills and qualifications include retail pharmacy experience, warehouse or distribution experience, prior experience in a central fill pharmacy environment, experience in a pill-pack, specialty, or mail order production pharmacy or shipping department, customer service experience in a pharmacy or retail setting, experience with fulfillment operations, familiarity with compounding or handling multiple dosage forms, strong organizational and documentation skills, ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues, and comfort working with automated systems.

Work environment is based in a newer, highly automated central fill pharmacy that prepares and packages prescriptions for retail pharmacies rather than dispensing directly to patients. The facility operates as a closed-door pharmacy, with no direct customer service or vaccine administration and no point-of-care testing. The team includes pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and shipping and receiving coordinators, with approximately 200 people working onsite. The environment is fast paced and production oriented, requiring a high level of attention to detail and consistent adherence to procedures. Pharmacy technicians must be able to stand for the majority of their shift, often in one spot, while performing repetitive tasks with precision. The position is scheduled on second shift, typically from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with schedules that may include Sunday through Wednesday, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday, or Tuesday through Friday. The facility is closed on Thanksgiving. The dress code aligns with a professional pharmacy and production setting, emphasizing safety, cleanliness, and appropriate attire for working around automated equipment and pharmaceuticals.

Job type and location is a contract to hire position based out of Plainfield, IN.

Pay and benefits range from $19.00 to $21.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on job classification and length of employment.
